Computeam are delighted to announce that they have signed a sponsorship deal with a young professional golfer who is set to take the next big step in his fledgling career having earned himself a place on the prestigious Omega Dubai Desert Classic , a key event on The European Tour where previous winners include Tiger Woods, Rory Mcllroy and Sergio Garcia to name but a few
Harry, who plays his golf from a club local to Computeam’s southwest office writes:
“I started playing golf at 14 and got my first handicap of 24 at Tiverton Golf Club. My Dad had just started playing regularly as well so we joined at a similar time. All I can remember doing is wanting to play and I’ve not had more than a few days without a club in my hand since! At 16 I was playing for the county age group side and by 18 was down to scratch. I then joined The Tournament Golf College , part of MARJON University, where I committed to a 3 year degree programme where we were based at St Mellion, Cornwall for the first semester and Amandoeira Resort, Portugal for the second. I absolutely loved the experience of playing with professionals whilst still being an amateur in Portugal and definitely left a better player. The highlight of my time at TGC was winning the Portuguese Global Golf Tour and setting a course record.
The year I left university I decided to turn professional. It definitely hasn’t been plain sailing but I slowly progressed for the first couple of years playing a combination of Euro Pro, TP Tour and most recently Mena Tour (Middle East North Africa.) In my final event of 2019 I won The Mena Tour Championships in Jordan. This result was absolutely massive for me and gave me the confidence that I really needed. The win also gave me my first start on The European Tour for the Omega Dubai Desert Classic on Jan 23rd.
Getting the support of a local company like Computeam is so exciting and important to me. As well as providing me with some financial support it fills me with confidence knowing that I have Cris and his team cheering me on.
Representing a company that supports business customers as well as the education sector in my local area, as well as nationally of course, makes me very proud.”
Computeam Chairman and Marketing Director Cris Cadby writes:
“Computeam haven’t sponsored any professional athletes up until now but Harrys journey really caught our imagination, the local connection to schools and colleges in our region coupled with his clear enthusiasm and passion for the game convinced me he is very worthy of whatever little help we can give him.
I have known Harry for several years as my son Jake, who will caddy for him on the tour event, was at university with him where they both played elite amateur golf and I have watched his career develop with interest.
I know how hard it can be for sportspeople from the southwest to catch the eye of the bigger sponsors so I felt we needed to help where we can although I have to say that Harry has done a great job securing some assistance from Nike and TaylorMade as well as sponsorship from a global supplier of security and data protection solutions with Barracuda MSP, one of Computeam’s key partners, and we will look to hold some golf events together this summer when Harry gets a break in his playing schedule. Hopefully he’ll even find time to give me a lesson or two!”
